Canadians will go to the polls on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 to elect a federal government. As Catholics, it is important that we all take part in this democratic process and exercise our voting privileges on election day. At the same time, we invite our family of faith to learn more about their local candidates, party platforms and how they will impact our community. The thread of faith is woven through all that we do. In this way, it is our responsibility to reflect on the positions of our politicians in the context of our faith. Where do they stand on issues of life, care for the marginalized, health care and social programs that strengthen our communities? It's up to each one of us to learn more about these and other important issues. We encourage you to utilize the resources at the Archdiocese site to assist you in the discernment process. An informed, educated electorate is critical to selecting our government leaders, those that will shape policy and legislation for years to come.  Visit:  www.archtoronto.org

Twenty-seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

MEDITATION:  Join us again this Wed at 8:00pm, at St Clare of Assisi Parish Room 3 downstairs.  This week’s reflection is about the importance of the contemplative dimension of our faith. “One of the tensions that runs through the history of Christianity is a tension between the active and contemplative modalities. One of the tragedies of modern Christianity is that the tension has become so slack. Every Christian is called to live the contemplative dimension of the Christ-vision. Every Christian, in other words, is called to deep ‘consciousness’ of what it means to be created by God, of what it means to be redeemed by Jesus, of what it means to be a temple of the Holy Spirit. If our life is rooted in Christ, rooted in His Love and the conscious knowledge of His love, our action will always spring from and be informed and shaped by that love. Indeed the more active we are, the more important it is that our action springs from and is grounded in contemplation. And contemplation means deep, silent communion; knowing who we are by being who we are. That we are rooted and founded in Christ, the Resurrection of God, this is Christian self-knowledge” John Main - The way of Unknowing. Hope to see you there.
